Where to go in July?
|

I am trying to plan a 5 day bareboat sailing trip from la paz in early july, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to where to go.
Is there anythign exciting going on in early July. Does it makes sense to go south or east from La Paz? Or are the islands to the north the best bet?
Any input you guys have would be useful to me. Thanks in advance.

The Islands of San Francisco, Isla Partida, are very nice if you can stand the heat.

I had a boat in the Moorings base in LaPaz, you can only go north. I would suggest you go to Isla Partida and anchor in El Cardonal or Ensenada Grande the first day, next Isla Sanfrancisco (about six hour sail from Partida) excellent snorkleing especially on N/W side by old light but plan on anchoring in the bite on S/E corner of island.Next you can explore the mangrove swamp on the island of San Jose take your dinghy up the tidal stream to a deep lagoon on the west end, BUT be out of there befor early evening or you'll be bled by ferocias biting knats 'no-seeums' if you only have five days that may be asw far as you can go. Fishing is the best that time of year and you can rent rods at the Moorings. If you have any questions E-Mail me at gmagpilot7@aol.com

We made that trip in July 2001, it was hot during the day but the night breeze was adequate to enjoy a good sleep.
Don't forget to bring some kind of cover or umbrella for the beach and a fair stock of cold beer!
You shlould go north. There are good mooring sites at Isla Partida, San Francisco and san Jose.

If you go south you will only find Isla Cerralvo, this is a picture of Cerralvo I just took from the plane.

Hi, Hot Crab,
July in La Paz has those wonderful Corumuel winds that kick in about sunset, blow usually pretty gently all night long to cool you off, and quit just after sunset. It's usually a southerly wind. The Corumuel wind is a welcome wind in July in La Paz harbor, out to Balandra and even Islas Espiritu Santos and Partida. I don't think it reaches to Isla San Jose.
For No-see-ums, we use this neat stuff called Crocodile; it's a non-toxic insect repellant lotion made with nice smelling pepermint oil. It comes in a roll on and it really works great in the tropics. We found it online by someone else's recommendation. Check them out at www.DancingRoots.com
Have fun! Pat Rains www.MexicoBoating.com
