Hi Captain Kit, from Pat Rains. On the Baja side of the Sea of Cortez, there's the anchorage in Pichilingue harbor near La Paz, but another better sheltered location is Marina Costa Baja in La Paz. Just up the coast, Puerto Escondido is a legendary hurricane hole, with Singlar moorings and a fuel dock. Check out Hidden Port Yacht Club there. Way up past L.A. Bay, some boaters road out the edge of a hurricane at anchor inside Puerto Refugio at the north end of Isla Angel de Guarda. Over on the mainland side, Marina San Carlos and Marina Real at San Carlos near Guaymas are both good hurricane shelters, as well as inside Guaymas harbor. You already know that the inland basin of Marina Mazatlan is considered a good hurricane hole, but Mazatlan does get hit quite often. During hurricane season, it's much safer if you move north in the Sea of Cortez, past about the Midriff Islands, then come back south after November 1. Have fun!
