Mike Perham, 14, just became the youngest person to sail solo across the Atlantic when he landed in Antigua on January 3, 2007. The British teen set out from Gibraltar on November 18 in his Tide 28 Cheeky Monkey to commence, in his own words, " ...fulfilling my lifetime ambition!"

His father, Peter, trailed Mike (by around two miles) in an identical boat, but the youth made the entire voyage without outside assistance. He made his own repairs, sailed for two charities and did his homework while en route.

Mike started sailing at the age of seven. Completed RYA sailing courses in dinghy sailing and windsurfing.
By the time Michael sailed single handed across the Atlantic, he already have clocked several thousand miles at sea.

Mike PerhamAll kudos to Mike, who deserves them. You'd hope his peers will congratulate and emulate the following-of-dreams.
Please also offer kudos to Mike’s Dad and Mum, who backed their son's ambition 100% and then some. Would you have done the same?
