Even though there is not yet a law that credits the Integral Coastal Administration (ACIS) figure, the determination is being analyzed by the Transport Commission of the LX Legislature, the Ports and Marinas General Coordination from the SCT continues to hand out concessions to constitute organisms that will be directly responsible for the exploitation of our coastal zones.

Gustavo Ortega Joaquin, Mayor of the small island of Cozumel, announced this Wednesday March 21st, that the Ports and Marinas Coordination authorized 3 new concessions for the management of tourist designated areas, and that these would be funded through the municipality's resources.

Ships docked in CozumelBeing also the President for the ACIS Administrative Council, he informed that from the 28 ports that were requested for Cozumel only 3 were delivered and the rest are still in process, recalling that this city was the first in the Mexican Republic to be granted its constitutional record from the hands of now ex-president Vicente Fox Quesada.

The ACIS is contemplating several projects for Cozumel's coast line, which are believed will help improve our image in the eyes of foreign tourism and therefore increase the number of visitors. Some of the main projects have to do with nautical tourism, like the San Miguel and FONATUR marinas, which will be able to allure the coveted wealthy mega yacht crowd - and their dollars of course.

Gustavo Ortega JoaquinIn the same tenor, he said that the Consulting Technical Committee will have "a lot of weight in their opinions", given that every time there is a new project in sight they will gather to analyze, discuss and improve it. Only after their approval it will be submitted to the ACIS Administrative Council.
